75 homeless in Clondalkin
Almost 200 local people have been listed as homeless in South Dublin County including 75 in the Clondalkin area – as the council moves to prioritise the issue in the 2015 budget.
The Echo has learned that while there are a huge number listed on the council’s homeless list there are also 10,800 local people currently on the social housing list – with just 172 people housed this year.
These figures come at a time when community based groups such as Homeless Action Clondalkin and Homeless Action Tallaght have been set up to tackle the growing crisis.
They also portray the reality of the situation in light of the recent death of a man who was known to be homeless in the Clondalkin area.
According to recent figures provided by the council, 97 families were assessed and placed into emergency homeless and an additional 46 families are assessed as requiring emergency accommodation and have been referred to the Centralised Placement Service for placement.
