762 homes in council stock modified ‘to varying degree’

762 COUNCIL houses in South Dublin County have been modified “to varying degrees” to meet the needs of disabled tenants in the county, reports Brendan Grehan.
At last week’s monthly meeting of South Dublin County Council, Councillor Teresa Costello asked the Council “ one-bed wheelchair accessible social houses are in the county at the moment and are there plans to build more, if yes how many and when”.

In their reply the Council stated that Part M of the Building Regulations 1997 require all new housing stock to be constructed ensuring adequate accessibility for disabled persons and all homes, including one bedroom homes, delivered since the introduction of the regulations meet this requirement.
They added that 115 one-bedroom units within four housing developments at Templeogue, Whitestown Way and Fernwood/Maplewood in Tallaght and St Mark’s Avenue/Rowlagh in Clondalkin in SDCC’s social housing construction programme “are due for delivery from 2020 onwards”.
In addition they stated that the Disabled Person’s grant scheme “specifically requires the Council to use existing housing stock to meet needs identified”
They added that under the scheme “762 homes in the Council’s housing stock have been modified to varying degrees to meet the needs of tenants”.
