Abberley Court Hotel set to welcome back its customers

Abberley Court Hotel set to welcome back its customers

THE bar at the Abberley Court Hotel is opening this Friday, with the lounge set to open its doors to customers next week, The Echo has learned.

Last May, the popular landmark hotel, which was opened by the Flynn family in 1995 and was Tallaght’s first hotel, closed unexpectedly with the loss of 70 jobs.

The 38-bedroom hotel was on NAMA’s books, with the national assets agency taking the decision to close the business and cease trading, appointing Grant Thornton’s as receivers.

After a lengthy negotiation process, the sale of the Abberley was finalised in January – for a reported price tag of around €2.5 million.

Those behind the deal are keeping themselves and their plans under wraps, but The Echo understands that a consortium of investors bought the hotel with a management company being brought in to run the venture.

The Echo has also learned that the new owners have offered a number of staff members, who lost their jobs last May, positions.

Rathcoole resident Gareth McCann, who worked in the bar at the Abberley for more than 18 years, told The Echo: “I have been given my old job back and will be in charge of the bar.

“We’re having a soft opening of the bar this Friday afternoon and the lounge is expected to open next week.

“The opening has all been a little rush rush, we only got confirmation on Tuesday that we would open the bar doors this Friday.

“We’ll have an official launch of the bar and lounge in a few weeks, but the hotel is not expected to open for another while.”

Gareth confirmed that a number of people who lost their jobs last May have been offered positions by the new owners, so customers can expect a warm welcome when they return to their local over the coming days.
