ADAMSTOWN Community College entered whole new territory after landing their first ever All-Ireland title in February when their beat Blackrock College in the Under 19C Basketball Final.

It was a long tough road to the National Basketball Arena for Andrew Flynn’s side, who had beaten Blackrock earlier when they met in the Dublin Final.

On that occasion just four points separated the two sides and it was no different in the All-Ireland decider as Adams- town recorded a nailbiting 64-60 victory.

“It’s the second time we beat Blackrock this season” said Flynn. “They are massive boys, very well drilled and very hard to defend against, but we beat them by four in the Dublin final.

“We stuck it out again [in the All-Ireland decider] because we never know when we’re beaten. This was our first ever All-Ireland Final” he also pointed out.

It was the precision and guile of Adamstown’s players that saw them move out in front in the decider with a 10-0 run, capped when Valenzuela converted his own steal late on in the match.

Tom Dowdall’s drive up the middle had Blackrock back in the hunt, necessitating a pile-driver three from Adamstown’s MVP Lourd Valenzuela and another from Cholo Anoneuvo to see them through.
