Airton Road to link Cookstown Industrial Estate and Hospital

TALLAGHT University Hospital and Cookstown Industrial Estate is set to be linked directly with Airton Road, via a new road extension.

Plans involved the construction of an approximately 335 metre two-way road, connecting Cookstown Industrial Estate Road to Belgard Road, with cycle lanes and footpaths.

The new road will connect Cookstown and Airton, via Belgard Road, at the Belgard Retail Centre and Burger King.

Some of the land involved in the scheme is owned by property developers including Marlet, but South Dublin County say they have agreement with three private landowners to progress the project.

One of parcels of land has been sold and the other two agreements are being worked out, according to the council.

The plans involved removing the existing roundabout on Cookstown Way and introduction of a signalised junction at Cookstown Industrial Estate Road/Fourth Avenue.

According to the Chief Executive’s Part 8 report at the recent council meeting, zoning for the Cookstown area was changed to facilitate enterprise and/or residential lead regeneration in the last county development plan.

The council consider construction of the proposed scheme essential to facilitate future development of the Cookstown area, improve accessibility, and provide an alternative direct access route to and from Cookstown industrial Estate to Tallaght.
