Almost all Covid-19 restrictions to be lifted by October 22

ALMOST all Covid restrictions – such as social distancing and wearing masks outdoors – are set to be lifted by October 22.

Speaking in front of Government Buildings this evening, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said “a range of remaining restrictions will be gradually and carefully eased in September, with a view to achieving a significant change in approach towards the end of October.”

From September 1, public transport will return to 100 per cent capacity.

From September 6, religious services will be allowed to take place at 50 per cent capacity, indoor venues will be able to operate at 60 per cent capacity for those who are vaccinated, and outdoor events will be allowed to operate at 75 per cent capacity, also for those who are vaccinated.

On September 20, restrictions on indoor and outdoor group activities will be lifted, and attendance at work for specific business requirements may commence on a phased and staggered attendance basis.

From October 22, requirements for social distancing, mask wearing outdoors and in indoor private settings, and limits on numbers that can meet in private homes and gardens, will also be lifted.

Also from October 22, certification of vaccination, immunity or testing as a prerequisite for access to activities and events – with the exception of international travel – will no longer be required. Restrictions on high-risk activities, such as going to nightclubs, will also be lifted.

However, masks will continue to be required on public transport, and in retail and healthcare settings.
