Amazon to give St Paul’s students insight into the world of business

AMAZON and a Greenhills school are set to commence a programme giving students an insight into the world of business, reports Maurice Garvey.
St Paul’s Secondary School are to begin a Business in the Community Ireland’s (BITCI) World of Work programme in the coming weeks, which will be delivered with support from Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The programme will be available to second year students.
During the year, AWS employees will give students an insight into the workplace through a company overview session, and talk with the students about the real-life skills required in the workplace.
They will run ‘A Day in the Life’ session, to assist the students in recognising the value of completing their education, and help them explore possible career paths.
Students will also learn about the many career opportunities that exist in the technology industry.
Geraldine Troy, Principal, St. Paul’s SS, said: “This programme broadens horizons, helps students view their future in terms of a career as opposed to just a job and to think outside the box, as well as looking at traditional areas. It improves students’ confidence, helps students feel proud of their school and themselves, and it encourages them to dwell on their strengths.”
Andrea Lazenby Simpson, Assistant Manager, BITCI said: “It is wonderful to be able to facilitate and coordinate this World of Work programme with a world-leading company like Amazon Web Services and St Paul’s Secondary School. The programme will have a huge positive impact on both the students and the AWS colleagues.”
The partnership has been facilitated by BITCI’s Schools’ Business Partnership (SBP) flagship initiative.
Funded by the Department of Education and participating businesses, the SBP has 213 post primary and primary schools in Ireland partnered with a local business.
