April Team of the Month: Clondalkin Rugby Club women’s team

AT THE end of what has seemed like a very long season the Clondalkin Women J1s had plenty to shout about when they lifted the Paul Flood Plate title after seeing off Naas 19-12 in the decider in Carlow IT.

The team had come through 64 training sessions, 15 matches, a top-four place in Division Two and over 30 players worn the crest in battle this season.

After a comprehensive result in the semi-finals against Portlaoise, Clondalkin were all fully aware that they needed to improve and up their game further if they were to have any hope of beating a talented Naas side which they successfully achieved.

“Its been a succesful end to the season beating Naas in the Plate Final and finishing fourth in Division Two,” Philip Byrne, coach of Clondalkin Rugby Club women’s Team.

“Its our first trophy since 2012 and we have had a big upsurge in players joining the club over the last couple of years which is paying off.

“We have a new coaching team who are doing really well this season and we are delighted to pick up the award,” he said.
