Ballyboden lose out in closely fought game

The Dublin Senior Football Championship commenced last weekend with a number of local clubs in action who all bar one unfortunately suffered defeats reports Stephen Farrell.

Ballyboden St Enda’s were defeated by just one point by Ballymun Kickhams on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-11 on Saturday in Parnell Park.

After a closely fought opening half, ‘Boden suffered a double blow with the dismissal of Cathal Flaherty in the 29th minute followed by a Paddy Small goal in added time to leave Kickhams 1-4 to 0-3 ahead at the break.

Ballymun dominated the third quarter which left them seven points ahead but St Enda’s responded with a rapid-fire goal and a point from Daire Sweeney in the 53rd minute.

Ballymun in turn replied with vital points and while James McCarthy was sent off they were able to hold out for victory by the Action from the match betewen Ballyboden and Ballymun Kickhams slenderest of margins.

St Jude’s had an impressive victory over Fingallians on a scoreline of 3-15 to 1-11 in Balgriffin on Saturday evening.

Goals from Darragh Rooney, Eoin Kenny and Simon King helped the Templeogue club to victory with Oisín Lynch scoring a late consolation goal for the team from Swords.

Also in Balgriffin on Saturday evening Thomas Davis were defeated by St Vincent’s on a scoreline of 1-16 to 1-10.

Kilmacud Crokes, the 2023 Champions had a hard-fought win over Skerries Harps on a scoreline of 2-15 to 3-10 on Friday night in Parnell Park.

Ballinteer St John’s beat St Sylvester’s on a scoreline of 2-14 to 1-10 on Saturday afternoon also at Parnell Park and Cuala were winners over Clontarf by 2-14 to 1-12 on Saturday in O’Toole Park.
