Ballycragh Park Teenspace to benefit local community

Ballycragh Park Teenspace to benefit local community

MAYOR of South Dublin County Council, Councillor Peter Kavanagh officially opened the teenspace and the extension to the playspace at Ballycragh Park.

Speaking at the event Mayor Cllr Kavanagh said: “The physical and mental well-being of everyone is greatly enhanced by access to the outdoors, social contact and physical activity; and South Dublin County Council’s Teenspace Programme is directly focussed on meeting these needs.

“South Dublin County Council’s Teenspace Programme commenced following countywide consultations with teenagers, to find out what their needs are and how those needs can be best met in [council] parks and open spaces.  In Ballycragh that has resulted in the new teenspace you see today, located in a safe, high-profile location with plenty of seating and with access to large informal activity areas such as parkour and callisthenics.

“In addition; The Have Your Say programme in this area included for the extension of facilites to the very popular Ballycragh playspace.

“The local community voted in large numbers to include an extended playspace for younger children.”

The Mayor went on to pay tribute to the local community for their support of the popular park and teenspace at Ballycragh Park, and the work of council staff in managing the project and maintaining the teenspace and the playspace.
