Ballyfermot included in €1.1 million resurfacing programme

ROAD maintenance works in the Dublin South Central area this year will include a €1.1m resurfacing programme.

This is part of Dublin City Council’s first contract going to site for 2024 and will see a

€1,500k resurfacing at Kylemore Road (Labre Park to Kylemore Park South), a €1,500k resurfacing at Bawnville Park and Cherry Orchard Court, and a €1,200k resurfacing at Ballyfermot Road (St Laurence’s Park to Garryowen Road).

The second contract set for August/September includes a €1.4m fund of works that includes

€285,000 for Crumlin Road (Raphoe Road to Iveagh Gardens), €250,000 for Camac

Lane/Bluebell Lane, and €220,000 for Naas Road inbound – Old Naas Road to Kylemore Road.

A number of footpaths are lined up for repairs, along with the renewal of 120 street name plates, with the contract due to go out in May.

At the South Central area meeting, Cllr Vincent Jackson (Ind) asked if any of the works will impact plans for BusConnects.

“Is it the most prudent time to do those works that will be torn asunder in the next 18 months,” said Jackson.

Dublin City Council said they are liasing with BusConnects but cognisant of the fact that parts of the road network are in a bad way and need repairing.

Cllr Jackson also noted the massive construction works currently taking place to build over 920 apartments at the De La Salle site and the “poor state of the road” outside the development.

“I just don’t want to see us waste money, are we confident that the contractors and another contractor who has moved into the old Texaco site in the last few days, play by the rules and keep the roads in good condition,” said Jackson.
