Bannon back with TKO victory

WORLD silver medallist Shauna Bannon has made a triumphant return to the octagon, recording a stellar TKO victory over Charlie Burke at Meltdown Fighting Championships in Bristol.

The Springfield native, who claimed silver at the IMMAF World Championships back in 2019, has been anxiously awaiting her next fight for the guts of 17 months.

A former kickboxing sensation, the 27-year-old spent much of the first round in a clinch with her English opponent.

Bannon kept the pressure on, kneeing Burke’s inside leg before executing a trip into mount, where they ultimately remained until the bell.

The SBG Dublin 24 competitor came out the fresher in the second round, with Burke sapped of energy after working to keep Bannon at bay in the opener.

Utilising her chopping left leg kick, snapping it up to the head and zipping to the body, Bannon managed her distance well.

Burke came back throwing hands and Bannon returned fire, with several right hands sending her opponent sprawling.

Jumping into mount, Bannon landed several hammer fists to record her first ground and pound TKO win.

In just two weeks-time, she is set to take on debutant Kerry-Ann Vernan at a catchweight of 63kg at the Cage Conflict IV event in Falls Park. Later in August, Bannon will travel to the IMMAF European Championships in Russia.
