Bazunu on the verge of move to the Saints

REPUBLIC of Ireland goalkeeper, Gavin Bazunu could well be on his way to Southampton from Manchester City with the Saints having reportedly tabled an offer amounting to some €12 million when considering add-ons.

The Firhouse man is seen as the ideal replacement for Fraser Forster who, this week, joined Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer.

Both City and Southampton have been in discussions regarding the signing of Bazunu for the past fortnight with a deal very close to being reached.

The Dubliner, while having penned a four-year deal with City back in 2020, only returned to his parent club following an impressive loan spell with League One outfit, Portsmouth.

He chalked up 17 clean sheets in 46 appearances for Pompey, while copper-fastening his place as Ireland’s first-choice shot-stopper.

And his likely move to the Saints could also financially benefit his former club, Shamrock Rovers by way of sell-on clauses.
