
Belgard 328-apartment plan lodged for fast track go-ahead

PLANS for a 328-apartment strategic-housing development on lands at the corner of Airton and Belgard Road have been lodged with An Bord Pleanála (ABP).
The application has been lodged through new fast-track legislation, with a dedicated website detailing the proposed development now live.

The development is proposed for the former Cable and Wireless site, with the demolition of the existing buildings included in the application.
The proposed development consists of 149 apartments across a part-five to seven storey block, and 179 apartments across a part-six to part-nine storey block.
The breakdown of the apartments includes 93 one-beds, 222 two-beds and 13 three-beds.
Planning also provides for two retail/commercial units, a café/restaurant, crèche, internal residents’ amenity area, residents’ lounge, co-working space, games rooms and gym.

A landscaped courtyard and public plaza at the corner of Airton and Belgard Road is also contained within plans, alongside pedestrian access from Airton Road to the TU Dublin – Tallaght campus.
As part of the fast-track process, a dedicated website detailing the proposed development must be created.
The proposed development is on the former Cable Wireless site
The site contains details on planning, architecture, engineering and landscape, alongside images of the proposed development – which is to be called Airton Plaza.
According to An Bord Pleanála, the last date for submissions is November 28, 2019.
ABP is due to make its decision by 24 February, 2020.
