Boden cruise into quarter-finals

BALLYBODEN St Enda’s senior footballers will meet Castleknock in the quarter-final of the championship next week after they saw off Templeogue/Synge Street 3-17 to 2-7 in O’Toole Park last weekend.

The Firhouse Road side had already secured their last eight spot before this match and the win saw them top the group in their section.

Playing with the hill, Templeogue were first to score when they pointed from play in the first few minutes.

Boden replied with a penalty after Ryan O’Dwyer was fouled as he bore down on goal, which was converted by Dublin player Ryan Basquel, giving the goalkeeper no chance.

Templeogue converted a free before Paddy Dunleavy registered a point from play and Ryan Basquel converted a free for Boden.

With eight minutes gone, Templeogue scored their only other score of the half, a pointed free before Boden raced to a comfortable lead with Daire Sweeney converting two frees either side of a Ryan Basquel point from play.

Alex Gavin added to the Boden total before Ryan O’Dwyer produced a great finish to score Boden’s second goal after a good pass by Darren O’Reilly.

Further points from play were added by Darren O’Reilly, Luke O’Donoghue, and Warren Egan before Daire Sweeney converted another free in added time, to leave the half time score 2-10 to 0-3.

Ryan Basquel converted a free in the first minute of the second half before Templeogue gave themselves a lifeline with a well-taken goal, giving Darragh Gogan no chance.

A Daire Sweeney point from play was followed by two Templeogue points, however, points by Ryan Basquel and Ryan O’Dwyer quickly cancelled these out before Luke O’Donoghue finished a good move to the net after a good pass from Darren O’Reilly.

While Ryan Basquel added a point from play, a goal and point by Templeogue kept Boden on their toes as the match approached added time. Points by Ryan O’Dwyer and Ryan Basquel (free) either side of Templeogue’s final point brought proceedings to a conclusion.

Next up is a quarter-final against Castleknock in Parnell Park on September 23.
