Maguire has played in goal for the Dubs and has been part of the panel since 2004 while Shane Durkin has figured strongly in defence for the Dubs.

They were part of the Dublin team that won the league in 2011 and also Anthony Daly’s side that secured the Senior Hurling Leinster Championship in 2013.

Gary Maguire said: “I want to announce my retirement from inter-county hurling and the Dublin Senior team. It has been a huge part of my life since my debut season for the senior team between the posts in 2004.

“In a career that I have got some great enjoyment out of, I would like to thank everyone who helped me throughout my lengthy and eventful career, especially my family and club Ballyboden St Enda’s.

“I want to thank all my past managers, I have learned a lot from each one. Thanks to John Costello and a special acknowledgement to Ray Finn our trusted kit man who always went out of his way to have everything you might need especially as a goalkeeper.

“Thanks to the GPA for their assistance over the years.

“Thanks to all my team-mates who I hurled with over the years and my own group of friends outside of inter-county hurling who always kept me grounded throughout.

“I was fortunate enough to experience some great days with the Dubs during the Dalo years and will take those special memories with me.

“I retire with no regrets and I am content knowing I gave it my best I want to thank my wife Orla for her support and patience along the journey.

“Lastly, I wish Mattie Kenny along with Micky McCullough and the lads the very best of luck for the coming season.”
