Boden minors championship delight

IF it was goals you wanted to see O’Toole Park was the place to be on Sunday morning when nine-goals were scored as Ballyboden St Enda’s lifted the Minor ‘A’ Football Championship.

The Firhouse Road side overcame the challenge of Kilmacud Crokes 6- 8 to 3-7 scoring four-goals in the closing stages to secure the title in a dramatic conclusion to the contest.

Crokes came from 1-8 to 0-2 down at the interval to take the lead mid-way through the second half but after a player was black-carded, the Firhouse Road side took full advantage and hammered home four goals in the closing stages.

The first half of this match saw Boden lay siege early on and after eight minutes they were five points to the good.

Callum O’Dwyer opened Boden’s account with a good point before Harry Buckley slotted home a goal after good work from Daragh Delany and Paddy Curry.

Another O’Dwyer point edged Boden further in front before Sean McBarron replied for Crokes with two-points to give his side a lift.

However, at the other end Enda’s were dangerous going forward and further points from Curry, O’Dwyer and Kevin Byrne before Brendan Kenny netted a goal for Crokes on 24 minutes.

Boden’s six-point half time cushion was reduced to three five minutes into the half as they took advantage of the elements.

A Sam Kilroy goal mid-way through the second half saw the teams on level terms as Crokes started to pick up the momentum but Enda’s to their credit held their shape.

However, the lively Mark McGlynn netted a goal for Boden before Crokes were reduced to 14 players after a black card was issued.

Boden took full advantage of the numerical numbers with Delaney scoring two goals while O’Dwyer and Alex Young found the back of the net to secure the title for their side.
