DESPITE being scheduled on the same day as the hugely anticipated Dublin v Kerry All-Ireland semi-final, the annual Bra Chain event at Corkagh Park still managed to raise vital funds for cancer research and awareness.

Clondalkin sisters Ann McDonnell and Lyn Lee started the initiative in 2014, to honour their late mother Cathy McDonnell, who passed away after suffering from Breast Cancer.

The sisters held their third Bra Chain event on Sunday, and despite the massive interest in the football match, they still raised €2,000 for breast cancer research and awareness.

Kilmahuddrick resident Ann said: “The people of Clondalkin are very generous. It wasn’t as good as previous years with the match on, but we host it on the last Sunday of August each year.

“We still raised €2,000 and had pub collections on Friday and Saturday night in Clondalkin. I’d like to thank everyone who supported the event, and to Ivana Horan and Sheila Ward for their continued support.”

The event sees a collection of donated bras hung together in the park with messages for loved ones who passed away, or loved ones receiving treatment.

Residents can still donate for the Bra Chain event by calling Ann at 087 9102542 or Lyn at 087 6394646.
