BRIAN McElroy was the first new name in three decades to enter Dublin’s undertaker business when at the age of 30 he opened a funeral home in Crumlin.

Since then, Brian has opened a funeral home on Monastery Road in Clondalkin, with the Dublin native this month opening his third premises off the Tallaght-Bypass, close to the Square Shopping Centre.

Located across from Tallaght Stadium, the new funeral home has received a major refurbishment, which saw Brian invest more than €600,000 into the purchase and renovating of the premises – which he has described as homely, spacious, comforting and personal.

Brian started his undertaker career washing cars for an established funeral directors in Dublin, getting promoted at the tender age of 14 and embalming his first body.

When he was just thirty, Brian set up his own funeral home in Crumlin, and was the first new family name to enter Dublin’s undertaker business in over three decades.

Brian told The Echo: “It was such a big step for me to open my own funeral home ten years ago.

“I didn’t know if people wanted choice in relation to funeral directors or if they would move away from using funeral directors that had been used by their families.

“However, people were looking for choice and we now care for more than 500 families every year, with this number expected to grow with the new Tallaght business.

He added: “It’s wonderful to be open in Tallaght and I hope that our arrival will give people living in the area an alternative.

“Our prices are tailored to suit the budgets of individual families and the funeral home in Tallaght is very homely and spacious, with plenty of car parking and nice surroundings.

“I have put a lot of thought into it and our team provides a very respectful and personal service that is tailored to each family.”

Brian McElroy Funeral Directors currently employs 12 full-time employees, with two new jobs expected due to the Tallaght opening.
