Building works start again on controversial Homeville residential development

WORK resumed on the long-awaited Homeville residential development in Knocklyon this week, after the housing scheme was beset with delays, reports Aideen O’Flaherty.

As reported in The Echo in April last year, remedial work had to be carried out on the site after work by then-contractor Forrme stopped the previous February.

The development, known as Watercourse Grove, is a 16-unit rapid-build scheme for South Dublin County Council, comprising nine two-bed and seven three-bed houses.

The rapid-build social housing development was first mooted in 2018, for the site at the Homeville end of the Old Knocklyon Road, bounded by Firhouse Road and the M50 motorway.

Construction work began on the site in May 2021, but workers from Forrme departed the site in February 2022 after their contract was terminated.

The site had been left idle until this week, when work by newly appointed contractor ClearyDoyle began. Local Fine Gael councillor Brian Lawlor welcomed the recommencement of work on the site and said that the housing units are expected to be finished by autumn next year.

“It’s a good, positive move for the area and I’m delighted to see it,” Cllr Lawlor told The Echo.

“It’s been a huge issue. It’s great that there are 16 houses being built.” ClearlyDoyle’s previous work for South Dublin County Council includes the Mayfield Park development in Clondalkin and the Brady’s Court scheme on the Old Bawn Road in Tallaght.
