Bursary awards promote sport and college leaders

STUDENTS from TU Dublin Tallaght Campus were presented with bursary awards in the college last week.

The programme in association with South Dublin County Council, aims to promote sport and its volunteers in the community.

Among those members who received bursary awards were Archery Club – Chidinma Iwuaba, Darragh Clohessy, Nathan Mc Kee and Sam Delaney; Badminton Club – Muhammad Zeshan and Noor Fatima; Basketball Club – Dylan Downey and Liam Osinuga; Combat Sports Club – Brian Coleman, Leard Xheladini and Michail Topolnickij; GAA Club – Aaron Chinchilla, Adam Fitzsimons, Bryan Keogh Smyth, Meaghan Rock and Megan Doran; Rugby Club – Mia Whelan; Sailing Club – Lauren O’Hare; Soccer Club – Amy Cahill, Cole Omorehiomwan, Conor Cheetham, Emma Ballesty and Kian Delaney; Ultimate Frisbee Club – Christina Manning; Volleyball Club – Emma Hughes, Jan Ahmadi and John Burke.

Mayor Emma Murphy was in attendance along with Colm Ward, Director of Housing and Community, Ciaran Farrelly, SDCC Sports Office and Thos McDermott, co-ordinator of South Dublin Sports Partnership.

Former Shamrock Rovers legend Pat Scully who is involved with TU Dublin soccer team was present along with badminton coach Mark Topping.

“The TU Dublin Sport Club Development Bursary aims to promote and develop the leaders, administrators and managers of the future, in the community,” said TU Dublin Sports Officer Tim O’Connor.

“In its 20th year almost 800 students have been supported to date and reflect the university’s commitment to developing graduate attributes that increase students employability,” said Tim.
