Busy Christmas period for Dublin Fire Brigade

FIREFIGHTERS from Dublin Fire Brigade had a busy Christmas period in 2018, where they put out house fires and car fires, and even helped to deliver a baby on Christmas Day.
The emergency personnel, as per usual, worked throughout the Christmas period to be on-hand for any emergencies that might occur.

On December 23, crews from Dolphin’s Barn and Donnybrook fought a domestic fire at a house in Walkinstown.
The occupant of the house was outside by the time firefighters arrived and was later transported to hospital by an ambulance crew.
Firefighters from Rathfarnham and Tallaght battled a house fire that happened overnight on Christmas Eve, where a smoke alarm woke the occupants and three people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
On Christmas morning, a Tallaght fire EMS crew, along with an ambulance crew from Blanchardstown, assisted with an unexpected home birth in Lucan, no doubt delivering the best Christmas present that family has ever received.
In the days after Christmas, DFB attended a number of vehicle-related incidents, including a single car road traffic collision on the N4, where the car had run up the embankment, hit a tree and landed back on the road, and they also assisted following a collision at the Glenview roundabout on December 27.
Matt Crehan, a new recruit who was awarded Thomas P O’Brien Silver Axe Award for best recruit at his recent graduation, fought his first fire on December 29, where he extinguished a car fire in Tallaght.

Following the festive season, Dublin Fire Brigade are advising people to dispose of their Christmas packaging carefully, as if left out in the open it may attract arsonists, and they are also encouraging people to check weekly that their fire alarm is working.
