Busy times for Templeogue basketball in cup deciders

IT WAS a busy weekend for Templeogue Basketball club who competed in five cup finals at the weekend.

Templeogue girls U14 basketball recorded a well-deserved victory in Saturday’s cup final against Tolka Rovers.

Tolka Rovers edged a tense opening quarter 9-6 as it took Templeogue a little while to settle, with some unlucky calls going against them.

However, a dominant second quarter by Templeogue moved them into 22-10 halftime lead, an early 3 pointer by Lucy Mander tied the game at 9-9 and was followed with scores from Tea Gjoni and Emily Hannigan which helped Templeogue into a commanding lead.

Tolka fought hard to stay in the game and the third quarter was a battle of the defences.

With Templeogue defending tough led by Laura Byrne, Isabelle Vince and Nour Selim.

The red army were determined not to be denied and combined for some lovely team scores towards the end, winning comfortably by 37-28.

Templeogue U14s enjoyed a good win over Tolka

This marked this teams second consecutive cup final win to add to their league.

They still have it all to play for in the Dublin League and All-Ireland championship to be decided later in the month.

The side is coached by Women’s National League players, Lynn Tunnah & Camila Casanueva Meanwhile, Templeogue U16 girls took to court in the Cup Final against a very strong Meteors side.

Templeogue U15s lost to Tolka Rovers

This meteors side have not dropped a single game all season.

It proved to be an edge of the seat game!

Templeogue produced some lovely basketball and all played to their full potential.

With seven seconds left in the last quarter and all square at 42-42, Templeogue had possession, inbounded the ball and advanced the full court, Sophie Gallagher gave a super pass in to Lauren Neville low on the base, who turned and laid it gently off the back board to clinch the game winning 44-42.

Meanwhile, Tempelogue’s U18 ladies were competing against the current National Cup Champions, Meteors.

Although the win was not Templeogue’s on the day, the girls played an excellent game of basketball, challenging Meteors in all areas of the court.

They showed great skill, tremendous team spirit and kept fighting to the end.

Templeogue U18s were also in cup action

A battling Templeogue Under 15 girls team lost out to Tolka Rovers in their Cup final in the Oblate Hall on Saturday.

Nine members of the Templeogue squad were involved in the Under 14 and Under 16 games earlier that day.

Templeogue had beaten Tolka in the League earlier in the season, but the Northside side used their height advantage to good effect with Aine Clinton leading their scoring on the way to a deserved victory.

Templeogue fought to the end, with Katie Behan leading their scoring with 18 points, followed by Eabha Booth, Sophia Kiely and Sophie Gallagher combining for 30 points to go down 52-62.

Elsewhere, Templeogue’s Senior One Ladies advanced to the Cup Final against Liffey Celtics, having fought off some good opposition along the way in their first year in this division.

These girls gave it their all from start to finish and certainly produced a high standard of basketball, keeping Liffey on their toes throughout.

Although they did not lift the Cup, they gave an outstanding performance and it is a team that needs to be watched.
