Calls for a new library building in Castletymon

By Brendan Grehan

South Dublin County Council has been called on to apply for funding from the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government for the development of a new library building in Castletymon, Tallaght.

Cllr O’Connor raised the matter at the February meeting of the Tallaght Area Committee of SDCC and stressed local interest in the issue.

The council replied that at this moment in time no application has been made to the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government for funding.

They said that the lease on Castletymon Library is due to be reconsidered in 2017 and the Chief Executive will decide in conjunction with the Architect Department whether the lease will be renewed or the option for the development of a new library project is feasible.

The council added: “The bad weather has taken its toll on the library building and every effort is being made by SDCC and library staff to maintain the library in the best condition possible and to continue to offer an excellent service to our patrons.”

Cllr O’Connor said he will continue to give this matter his attention and monitor the attitude of the council.
