Car set alight in close proximity to local businesses

GARDAI are investigating after a car was set alight on the Old Bawn Road in the early hours of this morning, with the blaze causing external smoke and fire damage to a local business. 

According to gardai, the vehicle reversed into one of the business units at around 2am this morning (Friday, February 16), after which the car was set alight.

The burnt out vehicle has since been removed, and no injuries reported.

In a statement to The Echo, a Garda spokesman said: "Gardaí at Tallaght are investigating a criminal damage incident in Tallaght at approximately 1.55am this morning (16/2/18)

"A car reversed into the metal shutters of a shop, the car was then set on fire.

"The car was destroyed and damage was also caused to the front of the premises.

"No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing."

The Echo contacted the Tanning Cove, which was forced to remain closed today due to the damage caused to the front of their shop.

However, staff, who apologised to customers for any inconvenience, confirmed that they will be back up-and-running as normal tomorrow (Saturday, February 17).
