Celebrating thirty years of helping eradicate poverty and deprivation through education

MORE than 350 people gathered for a fundraising lunch on International Women’s Day to celebrate An Cosán’s 30th birthday.
An annual event for the Jobstown-based education centre, the lunch is An Cosan’s biggest fundraiser of the year and, so far, more than €20,000 has been raised.
Staged in the Shelbourne Hotel, the lunch was hosted by Miriam O’Callaghan who introduced the guests of honour and An Cosán co-founders Dr Ann Louise Gilligan and newly elected TD, Katherine Zappone.
Ellen O’Malley Dunlop, the CEO of the Rape Crisis Centre, who is currently seeking a seat in Seanad Éireann, was also present.
CEO of An Cosán, Maura McMahon reminded those present of the “invaluable work” carried out by the organisation in its mission to eradicate poverty through education – which has seen thousands of adults and children successfully pass through its doors.
She added: “An Cosán continues to expand its work with people from nought to ninety years of age in a range of early years, basic, further and higher education programmes.
“With the support of our award-winning Virtual Community College, An Cosán is also now working with communities nationwide.”
Maura noted how the annual fundraiser provides crucial support for student scholarships and early year’s services in disadvantaged areas across Dublin.
