Century-old building in Tallaght Village destroyed by fire

TALLAGHT Village was fully accessible this morning following a fire at St Dominic’s Hall on Sunday.

Located beside the Dragon pub, the building is more than 100 years old and has over the decades been home to many different community uses and activities.

On Sunday afternoon, five units of Dublin Fire Brigade descended on Tallaght Village, after volunteers carrying out a clean-up in the area smelt smoke and called 999.

Units from stations in Tallaght and Dolphins Barn attended, with the assistance of a turntable from Tara Street.

Motorists were advised to avoid Tallaght Village, which was closed while firefighters battled the blaze.

No injuries were reported during the fire, which firefighters prevented from spreading to nearby buildings – including the Dragon.

Since the fire, members of the community have been expressing sadness over the loss of the building, with many hoping it can be restored.

When contacted by The Echo on Monday, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí responded to reports of a fire at a premises on Main Street, Tallaght, Dublin yesterday the 27th of November 2022 at approximately 12.50pm.

“No offences were disclosed.”
