JOBSTOWN Running Club are dashing their way from one fundraiser to the next, having only recently raised €340 for a homeless charity, the members will be chasing the sun this week.

The popular free club has quickly developed a reputation for taking on challenges and their next one is set to be the biggest to date.

Chase the Sun Challenge will see members starting their run at 4:52am and try to cover as much distance as possible up until 10:12pm this Saturday.

They are doing the challenge in an effort to fundraise for young Tallaght girl Hannah Keogh, who was born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.

Throughout her life, Hannah has undergone major operations.

All funds raised will go directly to the Keogh family to enable them to purchase specialised equipment and services for Hannah, to help improve her quality of life.

Founder of Jobstown Running Club, Stephen Martin, is undertaking the gargantuan challenge with the club for Hannah, his friend Anthony’s daughter.

“The longest I’ve ever done is 73km, I think I can get up to 50k by lunch time and then just take bits and pieces off it for the rest of the run,” Stephen tells The Echo.

“There’s going to be a few of us doing the run, so we’ll see how we get on.”

This follows on from Jobstown Running Club’s Festival of Running, which saw members take on the challenge of running a half-marathon, 10k and 5k runs in aid of VISIT.

VISIT is a Tallaght-based charity that supports homeless people and people in need of assistance in the surrounding area.

“It had a good old turnout, we had about 60 people taking part across the different runs,”

“It’s good to see people out in the community staying active and doing it for a good cause.

“VISIT do a lot of good work so we have no problem doing a bit of fundraising for them and they were delighted as well.”

Of the 60 people who showed up for the event, 12 runners completed the full challenging half-marathon (13.09km) around Glenshane Park and surrounding areas.
