Checkmat’s Kelly looks to maintain her great run

TALLAGHT’S Lana Kelly will be hoping to maintain her superb form this season when she lines out in next month’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Junior European Championships.

The Checkmat Dublin competitor only recently returned home from the World Junior Championships in the UK where she captured gold in the Orange/Green Team 1 -60kg division.

In that, she fended off the strong challenge of UK national champion Aaliyah Zara and Spain’s Desiree Bonilla Garcia who finished second and third respectively.

Kelly was competing under the guidance of her father and coach John Kelly who is Head Coach of Checkmat Dublin.

Her gold medal win followed her victory in the Irish Nationals (Orange Belt -60kg) back in May- the fifth time she has topped the podium in this competition.

Checkmat Dublin is located in its new home in Ballymount Corporate Park and anyone interested in trying out the sport is welcome to come try some classes.
