Cherry Orchard homes to be completed in New Year

DUBLIN City Council confirmed the remaining homes at a new social housing development in Cherry Orchard will be completed in the New Year, with the contractors due back on site.

In September, builders pulled their tools off the Orchard Meadows site, amid fears they wouldn’t be paid, following financial difficulties revealed by site contractor MDY.

Up to 36 homes in the 72 Co-Operative Ireland social development, have been completed and families have moved into them, but not the remaining 36.

The homes are allocated for tenants on the city council housing list.

MDY, a Naas firm, are involved in other projects, including senior citizen developments in Crumlin and Dolphin’s Barn.

At a recent area meeting, DCC said MDY have exited examinership and are now trading again.

A meeting was held with local stakeholders at the end of November.

DCC area manager Bruce Philips said issues have been resolved, construction is back underway, and will be fully mobilised after Christmas.

Cllr Daithi Doolan complimented DCC for their role in getting MDY back on site, particularly “when it looked like it could be months before it was resolved.”
