Christy to rock The Civic
SPEAKING with The Echo from his home near the Phoenix Park, Aslan lead singer Christy Dignam was chatty and upbeat as he looked forward to his upcoming acoustic gig with Joe Jewell in the Civic Theatre this month.
Genuine, mellow and down-to-earth, Christy is as straight and relatable as Aslan’s music and any fan of the band should make their way to the Civic on April 23 at 8pm when a unique, gem of a gig will take to the stage.
Aslan’s music has subtly defined generations from the band’s humble beginnings in Finglas and Ballymun in the early eighties right up until today – and for this reporter memories of the long, hot, alfresco summer of 2000 still play out to classics such as Crazy World, Here Comes Lucy Jones and This Is, which were on Aslan’s live album This is Dublin, an album, released in 1999, that introduced the legendary Dublin musicians to a whole new generation.
Called Some Songs and Stories, the Civic gig will see childhood pals and lifelong friends Christy and Joe, Aslan’s lead guitarist and songwriter, bring a very intimate and unique show to the Tallaght theatre.
Featuring many of Aslan’s best know songs, the show will also include some classic covers and new material – with a lot of banter with the audience promised as the lads explain the background to some of the songs and reminisce on the band’s 30 year history.
Ahead of the Civic gig, Christy took five to speak with The Echo.
