City Council dispose of site at Belgard Square South
DUBLIN City Council has proposed to dispose of a site at Belgard Square South in Tallaght to SDCC, having granted a five-month licence to the National Transport Authority.
This site is in the administrative area of South Dublin County Council, and it is now proposed to dispose of the site to South Dublin County Council.
The NTA proposed the development of a bus layover facility and associated welfare facility for drivers on the site after it was acquired from James Kevin Molloy, Park Developments (Dublin) Ltd & Viscount Securities Ltd.
The Land Development Agency has decided not to acquire the land for the purposes of section 53(4) of the Land Development Agency Act 2021 and has notified the Dublin City Council in writing to this effect.
In April, it was reported that the development was proposed to accommodate the increase in the volume of buses in the area because of the changes under BusConnects.
At the time of the planning application’s submission, the volume of buses in the area was expected to increase from 22 to 49 buses per hour.
Permission was first granted for this site in 2024, which included the closure of the slip road from Belgard Square South onto the N81 to accommodate the increase in the volume of buses in the area.
The layover facility comprises 10 bus parking spaces as well as welfare facilities for drivers and a development consisting of two separate parking areas with seven bus bays in the south layover and three in the layby to the north of Belgard Square South.
One entrance point served the layover area located on the southern side of Belgard Square South and a right-turn ban in was put into place to accommodate the site.
This proposal for the site disposal was approved by the South Central Area Committee at a special meeting on September 22.
