City swoop for Bazunu

IT LOOKS as though Manchester City may have won the battle to secure the services of Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.

The defending Premier League champions will reportedly pay an initial fee of €350,000 for the 16-year-old goalkeeper who has caught the eye of a number of cross channel giants since breaking into the Rovers first team earlier this season.

It is expected that he will pen a pre-contract ahead of an official move to the club at the start of 2019.

Bazunu has turned in a string of top-drawer performances in both domestic and Europa League competition for Stephen Bradley’s side, most notably in their scoreless draw against defending Airtricity League champions Cork City last month in which he produced a stunning stop from Kieran Sadlier’s penalty.

It has been performances such as these that have seen him garner a lot of attention from the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea, City, Celtic and Liverpool.
