Clondalkin cyclists enjoy great start to season
IT HAS been a good start to the season for Clondalkin Cycling Club.
Stephen Oglesby got the ball rolling for the club after he finished in fifth place in the Clonard Road Race last month.
Mixing it with a strong field that contested the A3 race, Oglesby picked up where he left off last season with another impressive display.
Not to be outdone, his team mate Bob Hall has also hit a purple patch, with three podium finishes himself.
Last month he carded a third place finish in the Peter Bidwell Memorial Cup Race in Drogheda, before coming home second in The John Reilly Memorial Cup in Stamullen Co Meath.
Not done there, he followed that up with another podium placing at the first race of the Mondello Criterium League.
Meanwhile Jen Bates has also been blazing a trail of her own in the women’s competition, finishing in a respectable ninth position in the season opener, Nenagh Classic.
She followed that up with a Time Trial victory and two third place finishes in the Scott Orwell Women’s Criterium League, which started on April 4 and runs until next Tuesday.
With almost 10 podium finishes in less than two months, this is already turning out to be a year to remember for Clondalkin Cycling Club.
And they face another two busy months ahead starting with the Deenside Cup (Round Three of the Womens National League) this month.
This is followed by the return of Road Racing to the Phoenix Park on May 13 with the Shay Elliott Memorial the very next day.
In June, the Team will compete in the Road Nationals before heading up to Newry for a three-day Stage Cycle while, the club’s leisure members will be looking forward to the Wicklow 200 Sportive Challenge which is a 200km cycle around the Wicklow mountains.
