Clondalkin man Igiehon named in Ireland senior squad

IRELAND senior men’s head coach, Mark Keenan has included Clondalkin man, Aidan Harris Igiehon in his extended 18-man squad for the upcoming FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Pre-Qualifiers against Austria and Switzerland.

The former Dublin Lions player, who now competes in the US for NCAA Division One outfit, Grand Canyon University, is one of three players who could potentially make their senior international debuts.

Indeed DBS Éanna player, Neil Lynch and Conor O’Sullivan of Ulster University have also been called up to the panel.

Lynch (29), who has been capped previously at Under 16 and 18 level, played a big part in Éanna topping the Super League’s North Conference as well as reaching the National Cup semi-finals this year.

Also included in the panel is Griffith College Templeogue’s Lorcan Murphy and his former clubmate Sean Flood, who currently lines out for Omonia Nicosia.

Neil Lynch of DBS Éanna has also been drafted into the Ireland senior panel

Speaking about his squad selection, Head coach, Keenan said: “I am delighted with the squad of players that are available for selection for these final two qualifying games in our FIBA EuroBasket 2025 group.

“With some players not available from our previous two games, it’s always good to have new players coming into the squad to freshen things up.

“Aidan Harris Igiehon we’ve been speaking to for some time and it’s great to have him training with the squad, while we’re always on the lookout in our domestic leagues and Neil Lynch and Conor O’Sullivan deserve their chance to stake their claims.

“With all the talent that’s in this group, it’s going to be very difficult for us as a staff to select the final 12 players.

“Both Austria and Switzerland will pose massive challenges for us, but challenges that we are all looking forward to taking on” he insisted.

Ireland will face Austria in Salzburg on June 30 before entertaining Switzerland three days later on July 3, hoping to improve on their current standing in Group A in which they sit third, just a point behind joint-leaders Switzerland and Austria.

The group winners and the two best second-placed finishers from three groups will advance to Round Two of the Pre-Qualifiers, which begin in August.
