Clondalkin residents blast council over lack of consultation

BUILDERS were prevented from commencing work on a housing site in Clondalkin this week after residents blasted a lack of consultation by South Dublin County Council.

SDCC are planning to build 11 units on an infill site at St Mark’s Green.

Sinn Féin councillor Johnathan Graham said the council “behaved dishonourably” in their refusal to meet with residents to “discuss the logistics of the contracted build and other related issues.”

The Echo understands that the builder turned up a week ahead of schedule, which added to the confusion.

Cllr Graham said: “As recently as [Friday] morning, the council pawned residents off and said they won’t meet until later in the month, but residents are expected to put up with the build in advance of this meeting.”

This was a view echoed by St Mark’s resident Ronnie Spadaccini who said residents tried to get ameeting with SDCC “for months”.

“Meetings were cancelled, and then we were told last week that the foundations are going in in the meantime,” said Mr Spadaccini.

Cllr Graham says questions asked during consultation phase had not been answered by the council.

A follow-up meeting subsequently took place between SDCC and residents.

“The council met with myself and residents and all issues are being resolved,” said Cllr Graham.

“The builder is urged to comply with all necessaries, and the job is due to start next week.”
