By Maurice Garvey
THE first-ever Clondalkin Talks mental health event takes place this evening, April 6, from 7pm to 10pm, at the Green Isle Hotel.
Sinn Féin councillor and behavioural therapist Mark Ward established the event after seeing the success of Tallaght talks last year.
Cllr Ward said: “Clondalkin Talks is about giving the community a voice and getting people talking about mental health, and increasing awareness of support networks.”
Senator Lynn Ruane will deliver an opening address at 7.05pm.
This will be followed by youth mental health talks and Cllr Kenneth Egan will speak at 7.35pm discussing addiction and mental health.
John Quinn will deliver a suicide awareness talk at 7.55pm, followed by talks from St Oliver’s Training Centre, Clondalkin Youth Services, Adam Harris CEO of Asiam, FM 104 DJ Keith Ward, writer Colm Keegan and a closing address by Cllr Mark Ward.
The floor will also open up for questions and answers near the end of the programme.
“While the talk is going on, groups with expertise in mental health issues will have information stands around the arena,” said Cllr Ward.
“They will offer advice, guidance and their services to people.”
