Delightful splash of colour at Google’s data centre
By Maurice Garvey
THE exterior of Google’s data centre in Grange Castle has benefited from a delightful splash of colour, courtesy of a mural project being carried out by the global giant to brighten up their “homes of the internet.”
Irish artist Fuchsia MacAree teamed up with Google to create six murals to brighten up the building at Profile Park.
Colourful collages at the facility depict images of summertime activities, including kids diving in the River Liffey, and free roaming deer in the Phoenix Park.
The largest of the murals is placed on one of the louvered walls that allows fresh air to pass freely into the building and efficiently cool the servers inside.
Fuchsia said she wanted to capture how the Grange Castle facility “uses the wind and climate” to cool the data centre.
“Each one is its own narrative but I think each one does a good job of representing different bits of Dublin and a cross section of a day in the life of Dublin,” said Fuschsia.
She wanted to express something that was “relatable” to people with a “splash of fun and something that is silly for the sake of it.”
Google hired four freelance artists in the USA and Europe to create murals at their data centres.
