Clondalkin’s Philip Galvin’s fresh take on a dancefloor classic
“GROWING up with that era of electronic music in the 90s, that track always stood out to me as an absolute masterpiece,” explains Clondalkin-born songwriter and music producer Philip Galvin.
This is in regard to the original version of ‘Your Loving Arms’ by Billie Ray Martin, which Philip has done a cover of with Argentine singer Emy Smith.
Philp and Emy’s ‘Your Loving Arms’ is a complete reimagining of Billie Ray Martin’s 1995 dance classic, which famously peaked at number 8 on the Irish Charts in May of 1995.
“My goal with this version was to pay respect to the original while updating the production with a fresh, modern feel,” explains Philip.
Collaborating with Emy was the
“perfect fit”; her vocal style brought a “really nice” contemporary energy to the song that complements the classic 90s vibe perfectly.
Emy states that it is a “pleasure” to sing this song, and she is “more than sure that it will bring back many memories for a lot of you”.
She continues by reflecting that “old music is the base for the new music we listen to nowadays; let’s keep it alive.”
For Philip, the most enjoyable part of working on this song so far has been the “mutual learning experience” and that working across borders with Emy brings “entirely different musical perspectives to the table”.
Originally when Philip was producing the cover, he considered adding a vocoder effect or autotune to Emy’s voice but decided against it in the end, “not wanting to ruin a classic”, and added mild effects such as reverb instead.
He is hoping this cover brings back great memories of 1995 for whoever listened to the original version when it came out, while also wanting the modern production and Emy’s vocals to make it feel fresh and relevant today.
Philip is also working on a horror-thriller book as well as deep house tracks, which he is hoping to release before the end of this year.
He would like to thank his Spirit Guides, Emy, and The Echo for their support.
The song was released on August 11, and the music video is currently available to view on Philip’s YouTube channel, @PhilipGalvinOfficial.
