Colm Gavin at the Workman’s: “There’s alchemy in the walls of the place”
Clondalkin musician Colm Gavin is gearing up for a busy December that will see him playing a headline show in the Workman’s Club and performing at the annual Ciarán Carr Busk.
The seasoned musician will also be releasing a single he co-wrote with celebrated musician and songwriter Charlie McGettigan, called ‘Dreaming Again’, on December 16.
For now, Colm, who is a past pupil of Moyle Park College, has his sights firmly fixed on what looks set to be a busy few weeks in the run up to Christmas.
Commenting on his upcoming headline show in Workman’s, Colm told The Echo: “Some of the best Dublin shows I’ve ever played have been in The Workman’s Club, and likewise some of the best gigs I’ve been to.
“Carron did a string of brilliant gigs there in 2015-2016…Maria Kelly, Ragair, Orla, Amy Naessens. There’s alchemy in the walls of the place.”
The performance will offer Colm a chance to play both new and old material, which is sure to be well-received by the audience.
Colm said: “I’ll be debuting a lot of new material, which I’m always cautious about.
“A lot of audiences who come to the shows often ask for a lot of my older material, but I like to think there’ll be something in there for everyone.”
Colm’s show in Workman’s will be on December 21 at 8pm sharp, with tickets costing €10 each available on Eventbrite, with special guests Laura Ryder and Shannen Carroll.
Another highlight will be the return of the annual Ciarán Carr Busk in Clondalkin village on December 23, which Colm has performed at every year without fail.
When asked how preparations are going for the busk, Colm said: “From what I hear, preparation is motoring along.
“In recent years I always have a few shows overseas before Christmas and so this year, a lot of the perennial organising will be done by James Howe, Dylan Cleary, Jordan O’Neill and Robert Collins.
“However, I do know that there will be some huge surprises in store this year.”
The 9th Annual Ciarán Carr Busk will take place in Clondalkin village on December 23 at 7.30pm, to raise funds for the Ciarán Carr Foundation.
