Community healthcare groups encouraged to apply for grant

COMMUNITY healthcare organisations are encouraged to apply for a grant scheme, which supports the delivery of needs-based, local supports.

Based in Tallaght University Hospital, the Adelaide Health Foundation (AHF) has launched its 2022 Community Health Grants scheme.

The scheme was created to provide support for not-for-profit and charitable organisations located primarily in Dublin 24 and to help ensure that healthcare is available to all based on need, not financial means.

Funding of €40,000 is available to assist community organisations, which specifically provide a service or support within the healthcare field.

Healthcare needs across communities are varied, with a diverse number of projects benefiting from funding in 2021.

An example of projects to receive funding last year included An Cosan, Anam Cara, New Hope Residential in Jobstown and CARP (Community Addiction Response) in Killinarden.

An Cosan extended its professional counselling service to teenagers following a grant, while charity Anam Cara used its funding to provide individual counselling sessions to bereaved parents.

New Hope used its grant to provide one-to-one support sessions to clients who have been through a 12-month rehabilitation programme and CARP’s funding supported a weekly, drop-in project for local women who are crack cocaine users.

Niamh Gavin, CEO of the Adelaide Health Foundation, noted how the past two years have been challenging for everyone, and for healthcare providers in particular.

“We have a strong community focus in the AHF and as we watched local organisations figure out new ways of delivering their services, often incurring additional health and safety, IT and staffing costs, we adapted the Community Health Grants scheme in response,” Ms Gavin told The Echo.

“We are keenly aware that many local organisations have faced a decline in traditional fundraising, and we invite applications from those providing service or supports within the healthcare field.”

Amounts of up to €5,000 can be applied for through the grant scheme, which closes to applications at 12pm on Tuesday, March 29.

Organisations that have received funding from the Adelaide Health Foundation previously are welcome to re-apply.
