Community projects raise awareness for International Recovery Day

SUPPORT service groups in Ballyfermot were out this week to raise awareness for International Recovery Day, which officially takes place today.

Numerous projects took turns to go out for socially distanced ‘recovery walks’ in the Lawns Park on Wednesday, ahead of the main event on Thursday, September 30.

Denise Joy, a Coordinator from SWATT (Supporting Women to Access Appropriate Treatment), says this is the first time Ballyfermot groups have linked in with the global campaign, but not the last.

“We plan to do it every year. There is a lot of positives going on this month, as part of our work to end stigma and raise awareness,” she said.

“On International Recovery Day 2021, we will be lighting up the Civic Centre, the library, and the primary care building purple for the #LeaveALightOn Campaign.”
