Community transforms village with a new look

THE village of Saggart has received a new look after members of the community decided to transform a derelict public house and install hoarding around an empty site.

Saggart Village has undergone a total makeover in recent weeks after the members of the Saggart Tidy Towns Committee came up with the idea to improve the look of the village.

Chairperson Rita Kelly and Treasurer Tanja Alt of the committee came up with the ideas for the makeover and it was then executed and organised with the help of local sponsors including Citywest Hotel, Maxol Ltd, Fleetwood who provided the paint and helped to paint the pub.

Other sponsors include Brunella Cottage, Centra Saggart, Coldwater Lakes Residents Association, Maximum Security Systems, Neonfix and Saggart Lakes Residents Association.

Speaking to The Echo, Rita Kelly, Chairperson of Saggart Tidy Towns said the hard work from all volunteers and sponsors has made the village “shine again”.

She said: “Saggart Tidy Towns Committee would like to acknowledge and thank our sponsors and committee for the sterling work they carried out in improving and cleaning Saggart.

“We are delighted with our new look village, in particular, the refurbishment of the derelict public house and the attractive hoarding around the empty site in the village.”

The derelict building facing Jacob’s Pub on Church Road in Saggart Village, which had just been boarded up and laid bare has been given a face lift with a new lick of fresh paint which mimics a front door and planters.

Hanging baskets with flowers have also been placed outside the building to brighten the building and the village. The hoarding that was installed stretches around the fence beside the building, featuring beautiful imagery.

“Our efforts helped galvanise residents to join in the recent major clean-up, which has made a great improvement in the appearance of Saggart,” Rita said.
