CONFIRMED: New Tymon Park playground will be ‘adult only’ area

APRIL FOOLS!!!

After many years of lobbying from local residents and politicians, the new playground at the Tallaght end of Tymon Park is set to open later this month.

The natural playground has been under construction since the beginning of the year, and this week it was confirmed that the new playspace will be an ‘adult only’ area.

Speaking with Echo.ie today, a local planner said: “Adults in the area are really struggling to find somewhere to play since the Cuckoo’s Nest closed its doors, and this measure should ensure that those still wandering from place to place finally have somewhere to call their own.

“The adults who live in the immediate vicinity need an outlet to express themselves, and we feel making this new playspace an ‘adult only’ area will ensure that the children learn an important lesson; they can’t always have it their own way.

“We have installed a drop off location at the entrance to the playground where the little ones can be tied to a pole and watch their parents play in a carefree environment, which should ensure the maximum level of happiness.”

Although seen as a controversial move by some, others feel the ban on children is a proactive one, with one local resident urging others to “keep their children on a leash”.

The resident continued: “Adults are always the ones overlooked when these type of facilities are launched, but not this time, this will be our place to play and laugh and do whatever we want while our kids watch on and see what having fun is really like.

“I think a lot of my friends will use it daily, probably to escape the madness of the school-run in the mornings, while in the evenings I think it will act as a real focal point for parents to come and get away from their kids – it makes so much sense.”

The playground is expected to open on April 31, 2017.
