BETH Coulter was all smiles on Sunday as she raised the 50th annual Ladies Scratch Cup at Hermitage Golf Club where she chalked up a superb total of 136.

Sponsored by Hudson Rooms at Liffey Valley, the tournament saw the Kirkistown Castle golfer bring in a course record of 66 after the opening round that placed her on seven under.

Coulter, who plays off +6, was on the Curtis Cup panel and performed brilliantly to emerge top from a field of more than 50 players.

Kate Dwyer, playing off +1 from Rossmore, finished runner-up on a score of 149, while in third place on a total of 150 was Douglas Golf Club’s, Clodagh Coughlan, also playing off +1.

Among those in attendance at the trophy presentation to Coulter was one of the tournament founders Ethna Scott, and Mary McKenna MBE, who won this competition on no less than nine occasions.

Delighted with this year’s landmark Scratch Cup, Hermitage Lady captain, Mary Hackett said “Despite the inclement weather, it was great to see the number of competitors and especially the increase of Under 18s participating in the competition.

“It holds great hope for ladies golf as some of these young ladies are playing off scratch or lower.

“I would like to thank The Hudson Rooms at Liffey Valley, our main sponsors for the day, and to all members of Hermitage Golf Club for making this day a very memorable one in the history of the club” she added.
