Council has lowest vacancy rate in country
SOUTH Dublin County has the lowest vacany rate in the country at 1.4 per cent, according to South Dublin County Council.
At the recent Lucan/Palmerstown/North Clondalkin area meeting, Cllr Madeleine Johansson (PBP) ask for a report on all vacant homes on the vacant homes register in the electoral area, with information on current ownership and actions taken by the council to bring homes back into use.
In response, South Dublin County Council said they currently have the lowest vacancy rate in the country at 1.4 per cent.
“There are currently 10 properties on the vacant homes register in the Lucan/Palmerstown/North Clondalkin area. All properties have been investigated and are privately owned.”
The council said grants are available to bring vacant and underused buildings back into residential use and ensure that existing housing stock is being used to the fullest extent possible under schemes including the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant, Repair and Lease Scheme and the Buy and Renew Scheme.
The Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant has €30,000 available to support refurbishment works of a vacant property into a permanent home. If the refurbishment costs exceed the standard grant of up to €30,000, a top-up grant amount of up to €20,000 is available for properties classified as derelict.
The council said if residents are aware of an empty/vacant private home in their administrative area, they can register the vacant property at www.vacanthomes.ie
