DUBLIN City Council have been praised for quick action taken to protect a house vulnerable to damage from joyriders.

A resident’s garden wall was knocked down in Cherry Orchard at the weekend – not the first time her wall has been damaged by joyriders.

Sinn Féin councillor Daithí Doolan said: “I contacted city council asking them to carry out urgent repairs, and have to applaud them for taking immediate action to repair this terrible damage.

“They arrived on the scene and put seven bollards around the house in an attempt to prevent a repeat of the damage.

Meanwhile, the council are repairing a vacant home in the area destroyed by vandals, and expect to deploy security when work commences to repair the house.

Doolan continued: “A recent spate of vandalism left a council house recently vacated by the tenant totally wrecked.

“This means it will take even longer to move a family in and it will cost a lot more to fix up. City council have agreed to put security in place when maintenance work commences.”
