Council seeks new landscape contractor

SOUTH Dublin County Council requested a contractor to replace the landscape company on a social housing development in Clondalkin.

Letts Field, a development of 37 homes, was completed seven months ago, but the surrounding landscape works are not completed.

The works include a junior playing field area, which was promised for local school St Peter Apostle SNS, ahead of work beginning on the council site last year.

Currently, the school have to fork out up to €160 for every ‘home’ GAA match, to hire a bus to bring boys and girls teams to Collinstown Park.

Despite assurances that work on this pitch was imminent last October, Mark Ward TD said it is “very disappointing” it has not yet happened.

Cllr Shane Moynihan asked for an update at the recent Lucan/Palmerstown area committee.

In response, the council said the contractor cited “poor weather conditions” following the completion of the housing site last year.

“The council has requested the landscape company be replaced as the reasons given are not acceptable.

The work is now scheduled to be carried out from February/March following the start of the new growing season.

“The council has retained monies from the contractor and a further failure to complete works will result in the council completing the works from the retained monies.”
