County Council plan to carry out public realm improvement works

SOUTH Dublin County Council recently released their draft plan for public realm improvement works in a number of locations in Tallaght for 2022.

A pollinator planting scheme is to be situated in a yet-to-be-decided location in Butler McGee Park, while a footpath is to be installed as the first phase of a walking path around the park.

Works in Sean Walsh Park are included in the draft plan for works, including the installation of public lighting at the section of the park to the rear of St Martin’s National School, while planting at the Old Bawn entrance to the park will be upgraded.

Car park lining will be carried out at the Castletymon car park in Tymon Park, while planting in that area of the park has been earmarked for an upgrade.

Other parks in the area that are in the draft works include Bancroft Park, where there are plans for the construction of a new footpath along the river, and Dodder Valley Park, where upgrade works will be carried out on the tennis and basketball courts.

A footpath from Tymonville to the Greenhills Road is to be constructed, while a wildflower area is to be planted in a yet-to-be-decided location in Carrigmore Park.

The planting at the Dancers’ Garden in Tallaght Village is in line for an upgrade, while the roundabout at the junction of Whitestown Way and Firhouse Road West is to be upgraded.

According to the council, these proposed works have been compiled “from issues raised as agenda items at area committee meetings throughout the course of 2021, undertakings given in response to members representations throughout the year as well as works that have been identified by staff.”

The Draft Public Realm Improvement Works Programme 2022 will be presented to councillors at next month’s meeting of South Dublin County Council for their approval.
