Crumlin United are spot on in Charlie Cahill Cup final
CRUMLIN United edged a tight Charlie Cahill Cup Final 5-4 on penalties, after the match against Wayside Celtic finished 1-1 after extra time, regaining a trophy they won last year as well.
Going into the match, which was played in Tolka Park, the Pearse Park side knew they were up against one of the toughest teams in the country, and so it proved over the course of the 90 minutes and beyond.

It was the Kilternan side who took the lead on 40 minutes with Ross Zambra getting the opening goal of the match, slotting home a sweetly taken free kick.
However it did not take long for United to level the score, with Craig Walsh finding the back of the net two minutes into first-half injury time.
The game was still level after extra time, it then went to penalties, where the Pearse Park side edged out 5-4 winners.
The Echo spoke to Crumlin United manager Martin Loughran after the game;
“It was a game of everything, it had good play, bad play, controversy over the free kick that led to Wayside’s goal being given, and both sides could have won it late on, but squandered great chances.”
Bittersweet moment
It was a bittersweet moment for Crumlin, as Loughran explained “It was a tight final, and it was good to win, as we have been beaten twice before by Wayside in finals, 1-0 on each occasion.”
The team currently sits in third place in the Leinster Senior League Senior Division on 35 points, 9 points behind near rivals and league leaders Bluebell United, while Crumlin’s Major Saturday LSL side are running away with the league, sitting pretty in first place, twelve points ahead of Bluebell.
